About Us

Fiona Kenworthy

Clinical Director & Paediatric Speech-Language Therapist

Kia ora, I’m Fiona. I’m a paediatric speech-language therapist with 26 years of experience supporting children to communicate with confidence. I care deeply about empowering families to understand their child’s communication needs and to advocate for what will help them thrive.

I completed my Bachelor of Speech-Language Therapy at the University of Canterbury in 1999 and later a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Clinical Research
from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My career began in the UK, where I specialised in paediatric feeding (dysphagia), complex special needs, and the
supervision of clinicians and post-graduate students.

Since returning to Aotearoa in 2007, I’ve worked as a Senior Speech-Language Therapist at KidzFirst Child Development, a Clinical Tutor in the University of Auckland MSc programme, and now as the Clinical Director of Small Talk Therapy. I have contracted to the Ministry of Education and to Learning Support units within schools, supporting children with a wide range of communication needs. My clinical work spans Down syndrome, Autism, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), language delays, and speech sound disorders. I’m committed to neuro-affirming, strengths-based, evidence-informed and whānau-centered practice – Therapy that feels safe, respectful, and tailored to each child.
