FIONA KENWORTHY
Clinical Director & Speech-Language Therapist
With over 25 years of experience, Fiona Kenworthy is a highly skilled paediatric speech-language therapist dedicated to helping children develop clear and confident communication. She has a specialist interest in working with children with speech sound disorders, language delays, Down Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and ORS funded preschool, school and highschool students, providing tailored support to help them reach their full potential.
Fiona began her career in the UK as a child feeding specialist (paediatric dysphagia) and completed postgraduate studies in clinical research. She supervised colleagues, taught students, and was a visiting lecturer for postgraduate programs.
Since returning to New Zealand in 2007, Fiona has worked as a senior speech-language therapist at KidzFirst Child Development and as a clinical tutor in the MSc Speech-Language Therapy program at Auckland University. She later founded Small Talk Therapy, where she contracts to the Ministry of Education and Oranga Tamariki, supervises other speech-language therapists, and provides direct therapy for children.
Fiona’s approach is evidence-based and individualised. She carefully tailors each session to align with a child’s unique needs and interests, ensuring therapy is both effective and engaging. Her goal is to achieve meaningful progress as rapidly as possible.
She integrates a range communication therapy methods, including Hanen, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Makaton, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and videofeedforward therapy. Fiona is trained in the Johansson Program for children with Down Syndrome and is registered with the UpsideDowns Education Trust and New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists' Association (NZSTA).
Fiona is passionate about empowering children and their families, ensuring every child has the opportunity to communicate with confidence.
