" I feel very comfortable and able to express my worries and uncertainties without fear of judgement. (Fiona's) comments help me to get a more balanced perspective and lessen the self-criticism and have a more constructive approach. I also find (Fiona's) clinical knowledge especially helpful. I acknowledge her reference to current articles and research and her willingness to share any material that she has. I find our sessions very supportive and her style of kind and gentle yet objective comments extremely useful"
"I was lucky enough to have Fiona as my Supervisor whilst working as a Paediatric Speech-Language Therapist. Fiona and I lived in different parts of the country, but we were able to have regular phone supervision sessions which I found worked really well. I always found Fiona to be very supportive and helped me to problem solve through a number of tricky paediatric feeding cases. I credit Fiona with a lot of the skills I have gained as a Speech-Language Therapist, and even to this day I never hesitate to fire tricky clinical questions Fiona’s way. I would definitely recommend Fiona as a Supervisor."
Fiona supervised me and another colleague, including meetings, joint visits and lots of support when we needed it most! I would highly recommend Fiona as a supervisor . She is warm and friendly and easy to talk to. Her experience and knowledge, and her flexible easy-to-digest way of sharing was such a huge help to me. I have learned a lot! What a wonderful supervisor and I hope others enjoy her skilled support as much as I did.
“My rewarding journey as a Paediatric Feeding/Dysphagia SLT began nearly two years ago . Feeding and Dysphagia were areas that I was very familiar with but more within the adult population, paediatric feeding was a whole new ball game. Having Fiona as my supervisor was a sigh of relief and breath of fresh air even if she was located in Auckland and I was further south, it was just comforting to know that at least I had someone to bounce ideas off of to ensure that I was on the right track. I knew Fiona was an effective therapist from the start. Her soft spoken demeanor over the telephone would put any anxious therapist, or child who worked with her at ease. Combine that with the wealth of knowledge she had in paediatric dysphagia was exactly what I needed at that time. What I valued most about our supervision sessions was the amount of professionalism Fiona brought to the table. Our one-hour blocks were always productive discussions rather than a question-answer sessions. I would present my case and share the rationale of my plan of care and Fiona would offer her insights into the case and provide suggestions as necessary. At the end of each session, I’ve always felt empowered and competent enough to take on challenging cases, instead of feeling the opposite. I strongly believe that was the effectiveness of Fiona’s supervision style in developing the skills of new therapists into the field of feeding. I appreciated this, and appreciated her honesty when she didn’t know something, she would look into it for me and send me information on it in a timely manner. SLT’s specializing in Paediatric Feeding/Dysphagia is a small niche; that is why accessing any means of support, guidance and opportunities to network with other therapists with this expertise, like Fiona’s, were never taken for granted.”
"Fiona has advanced skills in dysphagia assessment and treatment, in speech and language development and in general case management and organization. Fiona is always ready to share her skills and expertise with helpful and useful examples and ideas. Fiona provides practical and effective advice, in a tactful and supportive manner. She is very perceptive and can provide insights into how to develop and maintain healthy relationships with clients and their families as well as with colleagues. She also provided me with practical advice on report and professional writing which supported successful publication in a respected journal. As an experienced speech language therapist Fiona has navigated complex teams and difficult situations that arise when you are working with children who have a variety of social, health and therapy needs. She is able to think outside the box, and provide effective and useful support while being a great team member. Fiona is a fun, kind, warm and generous professional who provided me with great support and advice during the time we worked together. I have great respect for Fiona Kenworthy and recommend her as a clinical supervisor."
